BOARDS & COMMISSIONS
A number of specialized Boards and Commissions exist with the City Government, each tasked with specific items and agendas. Scheduled Board & Commission meetings will be placed on the City Calendar along with specific agendas.

Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission coordinates all testing of civil service employees and also provides Civil Service advice to the City Administration in other matters that may include promotions, dispute resolution protocol, and legal compliance.
Design Review Commission
The Design Review Commission serves as an architectural review board that is specific to the City’s Historic District. Structure facade designs, building materials, and signage are several of the items that fall under the purview of the Design Review Commission.
Parks Board
The Parks Board acts in an advisory capacity to the City Administration in the area of Parks & Recreation.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is a development review board that makes recommendations to the City Administration with regard to non-residential building and land use compliance matters.
Shade Tree Commission
The Shade Tree Commission is an advisory Board that assists the City Administration in the areas of maintaining, replacing, and servicing trees throughout the City that are located on public property. The City typically provides the services of a professional arborist to assist with the City-wide tree management function.
Board of Zoning Appeals
This board hears citizen requests for zoning variances from regulations pertaining to signs, yard regulations, lot width requirements, off-street parking requirements, fences, etc. The board also hears appeals concerning Housing, Zoning and Business Maintenance Codes.
